Are you looking for a treatment for your child that will improve their attention span, school performance, confidence, and well-being?
As part of my psychotherapy practice, I offer a structured mindfulness skills-building therapy module specifically for children and youth dealing with ADHD and/or anxiety. Mindfulness is an evidence-based practice and treatment model that has gained significant popularity in recent years for its extraordinary effectiveness in improving a wide variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, and more.
This skills-building therapy program is grounded in the ‘yoga nidra’ tradition of mindfulness. Yoga nidra is a form of body-centred meditation that guides participants to focus attention on bodily sensations and inner experiences. With structured practice and guidance, yoga nidra can transform the way a child moves through the world, reducing anxiety, stress, inattentiveness, and outbursts. With a very high satisfaction rate, participants find they come out of this program changed for the better: more regulated, more calm, and more joyful.
Who is this program for?
This program is for children, youth, and teenagers ages 4+. It is an excellent alternative, or complement, to medication. No formal diagnosis is required to access this program, and no referral is required.
What is the structure of this program?
The program begins with a parent and child intake (typically one or two 50-minute sessions). This is a chance for parents and children to bring forward their questions and concerns to the therapist and to gain a deeper understanding of the therapy process. Parents will meet privately with the therapist, followed by a private meeting with the child.
After the intake session, the therapist and child will continue with private, 1-1 sessions for the duration of the program. Depending on your family’s needs, we can determine together the length of your program. While there is always room for flexibility, it is recommended that parents and children commit to a minimum of 12 sessions over 6-12 weeks (1-2x/week). Mindfulness is a cumulative practice, so the more a child engages in the practice, the greater the benefits will be.
It is highly recommended that children engage in person for this program, but virtual sessions are also available.
Program sessions are 45 minutes in length and focus wholly on mindfulness skills-building. Unlike traditional talk therapy, the goal of this programming is not emotion and trauma-processing. Sessions focus mainly on building and practicing mindfulness skills through the techniques and methods of the yoga nidra meditation tradition. This program was designed by teams of mental health practitioners and millenia of meditation-mindfulness wisdom that has been passed through culture, research, and practice experience. It is a highly effective, evidence-based practice for wellness.
Are these services covered by insurance?
Yes! This is a mental health treatment, just like psychotherapy. All of my social work services are covered under most insurance plans. It is recommended to consult with your insurer prior to commencing sessions to ensure that these services are covered under your specific plan.
What is the cost?
The cost of the intake session is $220, and the cost of the subsequent sessions is $195 per session. Insurance benefits can greatly reduce the costs associated with professional mental health services. I also offer a limited number of spots on sliding scale for those experiencing significant financial need. Please contact me to discuss if you would like to explore sliding scale program options for your child.
